Student and Post-Doc Research Awards

NOTE: Students entering competitions must apply at the time of abstract submission and must submit their abstract by the August 1, 2023 submission deadline.

Student Research Awards

Each year,  Student Awards are made for oral and poster presentations by various organizations that are partners in the Conference.  Students must indicate their intention to be considered for the award(s) at the time an abstract is submitted.  Abstracts must be submitted by August 1, 2023. The Student Awards and sponsoring organizations are:

CRWAD Post-Doc Research Award, sponsored by the CRWAD Council and Program Committee

Award: $500 award with free registration the following year

Criteria:

  • Must be a post-PhD post-doc
  • Must be within 4 years of receiving a PhD
  • Must be in a temporary position at an academic, for-profit or governmental organization
  • Must submit an abstract for oral presentation

Award Submission Materials:

  • CRWAD abstract for oral presentation
  • Short CV (limit 5-pages)
  • Research statement (500-word maximum) – Summary of your research that includes a description of: 1) how your work fits into the broader field of your research; 2) the scientific question(s) you are trying to answer and their potential impact on animal health/disease, population health, and/or translational medicine; 3) your current work; and 4) the potential future direction(s) of your research program.

Award Selection Criteria: Two awardees will be selected based on quality of CRWAD abstract, research statement, CV, and oral presentation at CRWAD

American Association of Veterinary Immunologists (AAVI)

  • Number of awards: 6
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Scope of eligible presentations: work relevant to veterinary immunology.
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of presentation or have graduated within the past 12 months.

American College of Veterinary Microbiologists Awards (ACVM)

  • Number of awards: 5
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Scope of eligible presentations: work relevant to veterinary microbiology or parasitology.
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of presentation or have graduated within the past 12 months.

Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine Awards (AVEPM)  

  • Number of awards: 5
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of presentation.
    • Scope of eligible presentations: work in a field related to epidemiology or population health (e.g., epidemiology of health and disease, health and production of food and companion animals, food safety).
    • At least one co-author on the abstract must be an active AVEPM member.

The Animal Health Institute and Joseph J. Garbarino Foundation Biosafety and Biosecurity Awards

  • Number of awards: 3
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of their presentation.
    • Scope of eligible presentations: Work related to biosafety or biosecurity (e.g., surveillance strategies, diagnostic test assessment, epidemiology and prevention of infectious disease, laboratory safety).

NC1202 Enteric Diseases of Food Animals Awards

  • Number of awards: Up to 4
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of their presentation.
    • Scope of eligible presentations: work related to enteric diseases of domestic food animals and poultry.

The American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists (AAVP)

  • Number of awards: 1
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program or post-doctoral training program at the time of their presentation.
    • Scope of eligible presentations: topics related to vector-borne and parasitic diseases spanning from endoparasites and ectoparasites and their impact on animal or human health.

Society for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (STVM)

  • Number of awards: 1
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program or post-doctoral training program at the time of their presentation.
    • Scope of eligible presentations: topics related to any vector-borne and other tropical and subtropical diseases impacting animal or human health.
